The ground beneath your home stays 50–55°F year-round. Geothermal taps that constant temperature to deliver 3–5x more energy than it uses — no combustion, no propane refills, no rate shocks. NYSERDA's largest clean-heat rebates go to geothermal.

  • Vertical or horizontal ground loops — we design the right one for your lot
  • Works with ducted forced-air, radiant floor, baseboard, or a combination
  • NYSERDA Clean Heat rebates: up to $25,000+ for qualifying installs
  • 3–5x more efficient than oil/gas furnaces — 25+ yr indoor / 50+ yr loop life

Estimate assumes a ground-source heat pump (vertical or horizontal closed loop) replacing oil/propane. Final loop design requires a site visit — soil, setbacks, and heating load drive the exact ton sizing. Geothermal receives the largest NYSERDA Clean Heat rebates available.

Why NY Homeowners Choose IGS for Geothermal

Over 1,000 residential installations across Upstate New York.

3–5x Efficiency

Geothermal systems produce 3–5 units of heating energy per 1 unit of electricity. No combustion, no wasted heat up the chimney — peak efficiency year-round.

Works in Any Weather

Unlike air-source heat pumps, geothermal doesn't depend on outdoor temperature. The ground stays 50–55°F year-round — peak efficiency even on the coldest NY days.

Decades-Long Lifespan

Indoor components last 25+ years. Ground loops last 50+. This is generational infrastructure — it outlasts every other heating system.

NYSERDA Clean Heat Rebates

Geothermal receives the largest NYSERDA Clean Heat incentives — significantly more than air-source heat pumps. Amount varies by utility, home size, and system specifics.

4-ton GeoStar, replaced oil boiler · Ithaca, NY
“We replaced a 30-year-old oil boiler with geothermal. First winter our heating cost dropped by more than half, and we got AC for the first time. Best home investment we've made.”

5-ton ClimateMaster, whole-home · Bainbridge, NY
“The upfront cost was real, but the NYSERDA rebate covered a big chunk. Our electric bill barely moves month to month now. Should have done this years ago.”

3-ton GeoStar with desuperheater · Binghamton, NY
“Quiet, invisible, just works. No outdoor unit to look at, no noise. The IGS crew installed the loop and unit in under a week. The desuperheater handles most of our hot water for free.”

Common Questions About Geothermal

How much does a geothermal system cost?

Cost varies with home size, soil conditions, and loop configuration (vertical vs horizontal vs pond). After NYSERDA rebates, the effective cost often lines up with a premium conventional system — and the lifetime operating cost is dramatically lower.

Does my property need a lot of land for a ground loop?

Not necessarily. Vertical loops require minimal surface area — a standard suburban lot is usually enough. Horizontal loops need more land but cost less to install. We recommend based on your property.

How long does installation take?

A typical residential geothermal install runs 3–7 days once we start onsite. Loop drilling is 1–2 days; indoor tie-in and commissioning take the rest.

What happens if the ground loop fails?

HDPE ground loop pipe is rated for 50+ years. Loop failures are exceptionally rare — we pressure-test every loop before backfill and commissioning.

Can geothermal work with radiant floor heating?

Yes. Geothermal pairs well with hydronic radiant floor systems. We design and install the complete package.

What about my existing ductwork?

If your ducts are in good condition and sized right, we can use them. If not, we'll either upgrade or recommend a ductless configuration. The Manual J + duct analysis is part of the design phase.

What brands do you install?

GeoStar (Authorized Dealer), ClimateMaster (Certified), and IGSHPA-standard equipment. We match the unit to the loop design, not the other way around.
