Reviews from real IGS customers across Upstate NY.
“We were spending a fortune on heating oil. After our Mitsubishi install, that bill went way down. The house is also more consistently comfortable — no more cold spots like before.”
“I was worried about heat pumps in an Ithaca winter. IGS showed me the cold-climate data and the Manual J calc. Two winters in — we haven't needed the backup heat once. I'm a convert.”
“Ductless was the right call for our older farmhouse — no ductwork needed. Each room has its own control. The crew was professional and finished in two days. We love it.”
Do heat pumps work in cold New York winters?
Modern cold-climate heat pumps are rated to heat efficiently at outdoor temperatures down to -15°F. IGS only installs equipment proven in Upstate NY — we've tested these systems through multiple winters with real customer data.
Can I keep my existing furnace as backup?
Yes — a hybrid configuration is common. The heat pump handles most heating loads; the existing furnace provides backup on the coldest days. We'll design what's right for your home.
What rebates are available for heat pumps in New York?
NYSERDA's Clean Heat program provides rebates for qualifying cold-climate installations. The amount depends on your utility territory, home size, whether you're decommissioning fossil-fuel heat, and whether your ZIP is a Disadvantaged Community. We quantify exactly what applies to your project in the proposal.
How long does installation take?
A ductless mini-split for 1–2 zones is typically 1–2 days. Whole-home ducted systems run 2–4 days. Install time doesn't include permit + rebate paperwork, which adds a few weeks upfront.
Ducted vs ductless — which is right for my home?
Ducted works if you have existing forced-air ductwork in good condition. Ductless mini-splits mount wall units in individual rooms — ideal for homes without ducts or with inconsistent comfort. We recommend based on a Manual J analysis, not a one-size-fits-all answer.
What brands do you install?
Mitsubishi (authorized dealer), Samsung (Preferred Dealer Plus), and Bosch. We match the equipment to your home and goals — we're not tied to one brand.
What's the warranty?
Typical equipment warranties run 10–12 years on compressors and 5–10 years on parts, depending on brand. IGS provides a separate workmanship warranty on the install. All warranties are documented in your proposal.
