|Syracuse, located in the heart of Onondoga county, is a major focal point in Central New York. The fifth most populated city in New York state, the city is home to Syracuse University, whose athletic team is widely successful in NCAA sports, and the New York State Fair, an annual farmer’s exposition providing an array of entertainment and fun for families. Much of the New York state’s industrial history can be traced back to Onondoga County, from the emergence of such landmarks like the Erie Canal and the New York Central Railroad originating here. The city boasts a number of architectural masterpieces, and remains one of the liveliest cities in Central New York.|
|As an economic and academic hub for central New York, Syracuse is certainly a leading model for cities throughout New York. With notable commercial centers like the Carousel Mall, there is a significant amount of potential in the area to shift to renewable technologies. Earlier in 2010, Governor Paterson announced a new solar initiative in Syracuse, with the ultimate goal of producing at least 45% of electricity needed through more efficient, clean renewable energy sources by 2015. SUNY ESF, located on Syracuse University’s campus, initiated the Solar Power As Renewable Energy (SPARE) program, which offers solar-PV training to the public. IGS is proud to be one of the premier solar installers in the area, helping the region achieve its goals of greening the local economy and reducing energy-expenses.|
